Montego Bay Mayor announces implementation of special unit to treat with vending issues
Mayor of Montego Bay Richard Vernon says effective immediately a Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, MSMEs Improvement Unit will be established to treat vending issues in the city.
He notes that the unit will conduct research into street vending to ensure order.
Speaking during the swearing in of councilors at the St. James Municipal Corporation yesterday, Mayor Vernon said vending is a real income option that needs to be properly organized and managed.
Meanwhile, Mayor Vernon explained that the council is considering closing non-critical streets to establish local economic districts.
He said to further advance development initiatives, data gathered from vendors will guide the re-development of the ‘Old Shoe Arcade’ which will serve 200 vendors.
