Jury system to be reviewed following calls for its overhaul
Justice Minister Delroy Chuck has indicated that the matter of the jury system will be put before a joint select committee, to review its effectiveness and make recommendations for changes.
This in the wake of calls for the current jury system to be overhauled.
Speaking at the handing over of equipment from the Canadian government to the Justice Training Institute yesterday, chuck noted the concerns about the jury system.
He also noted the challenges with the jury system, including the stipend paid to persons who serve as jurors.
He said the data from the chief justice, and submissions from interest groups and stakeholders, will be examined by the committee, to facilitate a decision by parliament.
