The big winners in yesterday’s polls were Mark Golding and the Jamaican people.

This is according to Political Commentator Kevin O’Brien Chang, who was reacting to yesterday’s Local Government Election.

The final results of the polls are not yet known, but the Electoral Office of Jamaica last night indicated that the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) had taken 7 parish municipal corporations, while the People’s National Party (PNP) had won 5.

Final counting of ballots is underway at designated counting centres.

Meantime, Mr. O’Brien Chang said the interactions and camaraderie observed among supporters of the JLP and PNP yesterday, show Jamaica’s democracy is in very good health.

He added that the election results so far show that crowds don’t necessarily translate to votes on election day.
