Police and Road Safety Council urge campaigners to exercise road safety

The police are appealing to candidates and their supporters, to focus on safety and order on the roads.

This, as they campaign ahead of the February 26 Local Government Election.

Head of the police’s Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch (PSTEB), Assistant Commissioner of Police Gary McKenzie, expressed concern about the protrusion of bodies from vehicles during motorcades.

He said the act is dangerous and could result in serious injuries and fatalities.

Meantime, he is reminding campaign organizers that they are required to inform the police before staging events.

Meanwhile, the National Road Safety Council (NRSC) is appealing to political party leaders and their supporters to abide by the road code when campaigning.

Vice-chairman, Dr. Lucien Jones, called on them to be more cautious to prevent death or injury.

He referred to the death of a party supporter and the injuring of another, following accidents during campaigning.
