Residents of Greater Portmore protest foul odour emanating from a sewage plant in the community
Residents of Greater Portmore in St. Catherine staged a protest this morning (February 6) over what they described as an unbearable odour emanating from a sewage plant in the community.
The placard bearing protesters, which included teachers of the Greater Portmore High School, gathered at the institution’s gate, chanting and calling for the National Water Commission (NWC) to address the issue.
They said the issue has been a long-standing one and previous calls for action have fallen on deaf ears.
Mayor of Portmore, Leon Thomas, confirmed that the issue has been on-going for several years.
Speaking in an interview with IRIE FM News, the Mayor, who was en route to the protest site, said several schools are being impacted by the foul odour.
