Attorney-at-law Gavin Goffe explains that only motorists who paid illegally charged fines at tax office or during reprieve period eligible for refund
Only motorists who had paid the illegally charged fines at the tax office or at the traffic court during a reprieve period are eligible for a refund.
That explanation was outlined by Attorney-at-law Gavin Goffe while responding to questions from taxi operators during last evening’s virtual meeting of the Transport Operators Development Sustainable Services.
They were discussing the recent ruling by the Constitutional Court that motorists illegally charged fines under the old 1938 Road Traffic legislation over a 15-year period ending in 2021 are entitled to a refund.
Goffe explained that if a judge in court imposed a fine on the motorist, that is a separate matter for which the refund does not apply.
He said payments made outside of the reprieve period do not qualify for a refund.
