Vice Chairman of the National Road Safety Council Dr. Lucien Jones has suggested that vendors may now have to reconsider the mode of transport used to get to and from markets.

This in the wake of the market truck crash in Westmoreland, which left one man dead, and 7 other people, including a child, injured.

Dr. Jones noted that a truck does not allow for passengers to be strapped in with a seat belt, but a bus does.

Citing concern about the road worthiness of the ill-fated market truck, Dr. Jones said this is another issue that needs to be rectified.

Dr. Jones also reiterated the appeal for all road users to travel with caution.

At least 22 people have died in crashes, to date.
