Shimona Nelson signs as a training partner for the Melbourne Mavericks in Suncorp Super Netball League
Sunshine girlz goal-shooter Shimona Nelson has signed on as a training partner for the newest team in the Suncorp Super Netball League … .the Melbourne Mavericks.
Nelson, who was third last season with 618 goals……signed with the Collingwood Magpies in 2019…..but was not picked up by another team during a chaotic six-day signing window at the end of a long-running battle over a new collective player agreement with Netball Australia and after the magpies organization announced it would not be renewing its license.
As a result … .the six-foot-five Nelson who exchanged vows with Australian basketball player Buay Jok in November, agreed to take center-court for the City West Falcons in the 2024 season of the Victorian Netball League……the Premier Netball competition in the state of Victoria.
However, her pathway back to the suncorp super league was made possible under the terms of the new CPA which made provision for the introduction of an 11th player, whereby one nominated training partner per team…in this case nelson….is eligible for selection outside of injury or illness on a 6-month minimum salary contract.
The Suncorp Super Netball League tips off on April 13.
