Shericka Jackson and Antonio Watson are the National Sportswoman and Sportsman of the year for 2023
World Champions Shericka Jackson and Antonio Watson were last night crowned winners of the National Sportswoman and Sportsman of the year awards.
Winning the award for Jackson came after a superb 2023 season where she successfully defended her 200 metre title at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest…..clocking a national record 21.41 seconds….a time which is also the second-fastest over the distance in history.
Her resume during the campaign also includes silver in both the women’s 100 and the 4×100 meter events in Budapest and Diamond League titles in both the 100 and the 200 metres.

On the men’s side, Watson won his first sportsman of the year ahead of Hansle Parchment after storming to victory in the men’s 400 metre final in Budapest in 44.22 seconds.
The 22 year old who was the first Jamaican male to win the award since Bert Cameron in 1983……also captured the people’s choice award for his gold medal winning performance during which he powered past Matthew Hudson-Smith of Great britain down the home straight.
Other notable winners last night included drivers Fraser McConnell and Sara Misir who took home the male and female awards for athlete of the year in the motor-sports.
Other athletes receiving awards for their individual sports includes reggae boyz captain and goalkeeper Andre Blake, Ricardo “big 12” Brown for boxing, CAC Games bronze medallist Tahlia Richardson for badminton Sherea Clarke and Wyne Mccalla for bodybuilding and Jamaica and West indies batter Rashada Williams for cricket.
