The West Indies women’s team is set to undergo further change.

This with news of the retirements of a quartet of players……Anisa Mohammed, Shakera Selman and siblings Kycia and Kyshona Knight.

The quartet who were members of the West Indies women’s team for the past decade, were also part of the victorious ICC Women’s T/20 World Cup winning squad of 2016 in India.

Mohammed, a former vice-captain, leaves the international stage as the most successful bowler for the Windies women’s team in one-day and T/20 international cricket after making her debut in 2003 as a 15-year-old against Japan in an ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup qualifier in the Netherlands.

The off-spinner during a career that spanned 20 years took 180 wickets in 141 one day internationals…..including a career-best 7-14 against Pakistan.

In the T/20 format the Trinidadian ends her career with 125 wickets…..she also created history in 2016 by becoming the first bowler (male or female) to take 100 wickets and also has the distinction of being the first west indian bowler to take a hat-trick in a women’s T/20 international.

Selman meanwhile started her international career against Ireland women in Dublin in 2008.

The Barbadian, having quickly established herself as a key member of the team, was appointed vice-captain and took 82 wickets in 100 one day internationals to go along with 51 wickets in 96 games in the t20 format.

The 34 year old in a heartfelt statement said this was her final bow after 18 incredible years…adding her aim was always to inspire and assist others in their dreams. 

The list of players retiring is completed by the knight twins Kycia and Kyshona who made their debuts in 2011 and 2013 respectively. 

Kycia, a left-handed wicketkeeper/batter holds the record for the most dismissals in women’s T/20 innings with 5, as well as the most stumpings in an innings (4) and is also tied for most catches in an innings also with 4. 

She played 87 odi’s amassing 1327 runs and scored 801 runs in 70 t20 internationals.

Kyshona…..also a left-handed batter played 51 one day matches, scoring 851 runs and featured in 55 T/20 Internationals where she compiled 546 runs.

Cricket West Indies Director of Cricket, miles Bascombe in paying tribute, praised the quartet for their “dedication, skill, and sportsmanship…..adding their legacies as members of the title-winning women’s T/20 World Cup squad of 2016 will continue to influence and guide future generations to aspire to wear the maroon.
