Lecturers at UWI Mona contemplating industrial action, as they press for a compensation review
The administration of the University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona says its aware that lecturers are contemplating industrial action, as they increase pressure on the university, over a compensation review.
The lecturers who are represented by the West Indies Group of University Teachers (WIGUT) say there has been some delay in securing the services of the consultant for the review process.
WIGUT President Professor Paul Brown says in the interim, they have requested a 25% increase in salaries and allowances.
Professor Brown explains that the lecturers want the increased payment by February 29, while they want to start negotiations regarding the compensation review by Friday January 5.
He says there are concerns, as some staff members are leaving the job.
Meantime, Campus Registrar at the UWI Mona, Dr. Donovan Stanberry, says the university is fully engaged with WIGUT.
He says efforts are being made to reach a resolution to the concern of the staff.
