Opposition Senator Peter Bunting is calling for an end to contract work in the island.

Speaking in the Upper House on Wednesday morning Mr Bunting said too many Jamaicans are living at risk.

He said many employers are exploiting the system.

He said the system has a huge degree of job insecurity.

Mr Bunting added that studies have shown that the practice creates health implications for workers over a period of time.

Senator Bunting argued that employers who exploit workers claiming that they do not have the funds to pay workers better, should step away from the business.
