11 suspected extortionists arrested yesterday
11 persons were arrested on suspicion of extorting operators of public passenger vehicles in sections of the Corporate Area, yesterday.
Head of the police’s Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch, Assistant Commissioner Gary McKenzie made the revelation.
He said the targeted operation was a continuation of “Operation Transportation Streamline”, which began in September.
ACP McKenzie said since the operation began, some 44 persons suspected of carrying out acts of extortion have been arrested and some of them convicted.
He is also warning extortionists in other parts of the island that they will be targeted by lawmen.
