Shericka Jackson is among 11 nominees unveiled today for female World Athlete of the year award
Back to back world 200 metre champion Shericka Jackson is among 11 nominees unveiled today by track and field’s governing body…..World Athletics….for the female World Athlete of the year award.
Jackson was selected based on her performance at the World Athletics Championship in Budapest, Hungary where she stormed to victory in the women’s 200 metre final in a meet record 21.41 seconds.
This was followed by her claiming the diamond league titles in the women’s 100 and 200 metre events in Eugene, Oregon in 10.70 and 21.57 seconds respectively.
Also among the nominees are world triple jump champion and diamond league winner Yulimar Rojas of Venezuela, Dutch world 400 metre hurdles champion Femke Bol and American sprinter Sha’carri Richardson the world 100 metre champion.
The list further includes Kenyan world record holder faith Kipyegon, Berlin marathon winner Tigist Assefa of Ethiopia, world javelin champion Haruka Kitaguchi of Japan, world steeplechase champion Winifred Yavi of Bahrain and high jump world champion Yaroslava Mahuchikh of Ukraine.
It’s completed by Maria Perez of Spain.the race-walk world champion and Gudaf Tsegay of Ethiopia..the world 10 thousand metres champion.
A three-way voting process will determine the finalists.
The World Athletics Council and the world athletics family will cast their votes by email, while fans can vote online via the world athletics social media platforms.
Voting for the world athlete of the year award closes at midnight on Saturday October 28.
