Opposition spokesman on National Security, Senator Peter Bunting, says despite a reduction in murders this year in comparison to last year, too many murders are still being recorded under the Andrew Holness-led government.

He made the statement while speaking at a PNP press conference, on Tuesday morning.

According to Mr Bunting, the statistics being presented by the constabulary are not showing both sides of the story.

He noted that in recent years only 2010 has recorded more murders this time of the year.

Mr Bunting said the country has been recording an average of 5 murders daily since the start of October.

Meanwhile president of the People’s National Party (PNP) women’s movement, Patricia Duncan Sutherland says the killing of women and children cannot be normalized.

She made the statement while speaking at a PNP press conference on Tuesday morning.

Mrs Duncan Sutherland said in recent times there have been too many women and children murdered.

She referred to last night’s quadruple killing in Trelawny where two women were murdered.

She accused the government of not taking the fight against violence in the country seriously.
