The West Indies women cricketers, thanks to a sublime century by captain Hayley Mathews, pulled off the greatest run chase in women’s T20 international cricket to beat Australia by 7 wickets at the iconic North Sydney Oval.

This to level the three-match series at one-all heading into the final game in Brisbane.

Set a world record 213 to win, the ‘Windies created history by amassing a massive 213 for 3 with a ball to spare.

Earlier Mathews played one of the best innings of all time, ripping the Australian bowling attack for a sensational 132 off just 64 before she was dismissed with the penultimate ball of the penultimate over with the windies needing 9 from 7 to complete victory.

And in analyzing their performance Mathews said the effort shown by the team to bounce back from an opening game defeat was encouraging.

Mathews who was named player of the match for her knock that included 20 fours and 5 sixes was aided by former captain…..Jamaica’s Stafanie Taylor who slammed 11 fours on her way to 59 off 41 balls while sharing in a vital 2nd wicket partnership 174.

Earlier the Aussies losing the toss and inserted to take first strike piled up a mammoth 212 for 6 with Elyse Perry top-scoring with 70 and Phoebe Litchfield hitting an unbeaten 52 the joint fastest half century in women’s T/20 International Cricket.

Mathews was also the pick of the Windies bowling attack, bagging 3 for 36 with Shamilia Connell supporting with 2 for 35.
