JTA saddened at death of teacher in motor vehicle collision in St. Elizabeth
The Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) has expressed deep sadness at the death of a teacher in a motor vehicle collision along the Font Hill main road, in St. Elizabeth yesterday (September 22).
31-year-old Danielle Blake worked at the Savanna-La-Mar Primary School in Westmoreland.
Reports are that Blake was a passenger in a taxi which was travelling from Black River in St. Elizabeth towards Savanna-La-Mar, when a white Mitsubishi motor truck failed to keep left, and crashed into the taxi.
The eight occupants of both motor vehicles were taken to the Black River Hospital where Blake was pronounced dead and the others were admitted for treatment.
Reacting to the incident JTA President, Leighton Johnson pleaded with motorists to exercise caution on the nation’s roadways to reduce the loss of lives.
Mr. Johnson also noted that it is the responsibility of all Jamaicans to keep road fatalities below 400 this year.
