Jamaica’s Junior riders return after second place finish in Caribbean Cycling Champs!
Jamaica’s three junior cyclists are now back home following their creditable second place finish on the medal table, at the just concluded 2023 two days Junior Caribbean Cycling Championships in Dominican Republic, which ended on Sunday night.
Cajur Chue competed in the juvenile men 10kilo metres individual time trial where he claimed silver, after missing the gold by 10 seconds in a time of 13mins 29 seconds behind Puerto Rico’s Amauri Santiago 13min 19 seconds.
The other Jamaican male rider Khalil Russell finished way outside the medal positions in his events.
Melaika Russell turned in a stellar performance where she won gold and silver, …taking the gold in the 60 kilo-metres road race for juvenile women, becoming the first Caribbean Road champion from Jamaica since Marloe Rodman in 2015.
Russell then pedaled her way to silver in the juvenile women 10kilometres individual time trial, clocking 16 minutes 47 seconds behind Bermuda’s charlotte Millington.
Jamaica finished second on the medal table with 3 medals behind host country Dominican Republic who finish atop with 9 medals, while Puerto Rico was third with 2 medals.
The three Jamaicans were among fifty-six (56) athletes from thirteen (13) countries who participated in the two day racing event.
