Fewer Jamaicans travelling through Mexico to enter the US illegally
Foreign Affairs Minister Kamina Johnson Smith made the disclosure on Wednesday, during the Good Morning Minister radio programme, with Information Minister, Robert Morgan.
Mrs. Johnson-Smith explained that with the United States updating its policy, it appears that more Jamaicans are being dissuaded from entering that country illegally.
She noted that people are also being turned back from Panama, especially since the US is sharing more information with that country.
Earlier this year, the government warned Jamaicans about the danger of attempting to enter the US through Mexico illegally.
At least one Jamaican man who tried to enter the US illegally was found dead on a street in Mexico.
