President of the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA), Steven Golding says citizens must have a say in who becomes Jamaica’s first President once the country transitions to a Republic.

This as the Constitutional Reform Committee continues its work to remove the Monarchy as Jamaica’s Head of State.

Speaking on Sunday (August 20) at IRIE FM’s annual Marcus Garvey Tribute, Mr Golding said Jamaicans must be involved in the selection of the country’s first President.

Meantime, Human Rights Activist, Dr. Maziki Thame said when the country becomes a Republic, the Constitution must move away from allowing the violation of human rights.
