Jamaica’s  Reggae  Girls  are  basking  in  glory  at  the FIFA Women’s  World  Cup  in  Australia  after  creating  history  by  advancing  to  the  knockout  stage  of  a FIFA  Women’s  World  Cup……the  first  Caribbean  team to achieve  the  feat.

The reggae girls wrote their name in the history books after battling to a tense  nil-all draw with South American giants Brazil at Melbourne’s rectangular stadium to cement a spot in the last 16.

The result which came after a resolute defensive performance, saw the team finishing second in group ‘f’ on 5 points…….2 behind France who came from behind to record a convincing 6-3 high-scoring victory against panama.

In achieving the feat the team set new benchmarks in a number of areas.

They finished the group stage unbeaten….which is a direct contrast to 2019……and they became the first Caribbean team to advance to the knockout stages at the FIFA women’s world cup.

They are still yet to concede after 3 games……..which sees them joining Switzerland and Japan as the only teams to enter the round of 16 without conceding while Rebecca Spencer became the first Jamaican to keep 3 clean sheets at the World Cup.

As for the players, they were in high spirits after getting back to the team hotel.

They will now get the Thursday day off before turning their attention to the round of 16 clash against the group ‘h’ winners….which is shaping up to be colombia….in Melbourne on Tuesday.
