A major investigation is underway following this morning’s murder of a People’s National Party (PNP) Councillor in Portmore, St. Catherine.

He is 55-year-old Ainsley Parkins, otherwise called ‘Tyson’, Councillor for the Southboro Division in the Portmore Municipality. 

Reports are that about 9:45 a.m., Mr. Parkins was driving his Toyota Rush Motorcar along Laurel Road in Southboro, when armed men opened gunfire at his vehicle. 

The police were summoned and he was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead. 

The killing has been condemned by members of the PNP and Local Government Minister, Desmond McKenzie. 

PNP President Mark Golding is urging anyone with information that can assist in the investigation, to contact the police.
