Education Minister Fayval Williams reports that 302 ramps have been constructed across public schools to enable access to education for disabled students.

Minister Williams made the announcement on her Instagram page this morning (July 17).

The statement follows recent reports on social media that claimed a student who sat this year’s Primary Exit Profile Examinations was told by the school at which she was placed, that she could not attend, due to her physical disability.

This, due to a lack of ramps at the school.

Following those reports, the Education Minister noted that work would begin at the institution to accommodate the disabled student.

In the update this morning, the Minister indicated that those works have started.

Meantime, Mrs Williams listed over 90 early childhood, primary and secondary institutions that have had ramps constructed, while noting that 163 rails have also been erected.

In assuring the public that steps are being taken to provide access to education for disabled students, Mrs Williams pointed out that the work continues to retrofit all schools with ramps.
