Four people appear in court in relation to payroll fraud scheme at the UHWI
Four individuals who were arrested and charged in relation to a major payroll fraud scheme at the University Hospital of the West Indies appeared in the St. Andrew Parish Court today.
It is alleged that the individuals were collecting salaries under the guise that they were employees of the hospital.
While the exact figure which was defrauded has not been ascertained, it is suspected to be millions of Jamaican dollars.
Head of the Fraud Squad at the Counter-Terrorism and Organized Crime Investigations (C-TOC) Branch, Deputy Superintendent Horace Forbes, told Irie-FM News that the arrests were made between April and June this year.
He said the accused are set to re-appear in court on September 21.
