Vendors affected by Portland market fire to get grants
About 200 registered vendors who were affected by Sunday’s fire at the Musgrave Market in Portland, will each get $100,000 in grant.
Member of Parliament for Portland Eastern Ann Marie Vaz made the announcement yesterday, at the launch of a Musgrave Market Relief Fund.
The grant funds will help the vendors get back on their feet as efforts to restore the market get underway.
Mrs.Vaz said the intention is for the new modern market facility to be opened in record time.
Meanwhile, her husband, Member of Parliament for Portland Western Daryl Vaz said about 35 million dollars has been raised so far towards the relief efforts.
Several individuals and corporate entities have made contributions, with more pledging support.
An assessment of damage is being done in collaboration with the Portland Municipal Corporation.
