A policeman was killed and his wife wounded during an incident near their home in Somerset, Manchester, last evening (May 29).

The cop has been identified as Constable Damien Blair.

It is reported that sometime after 6:00 pm, Constable Blair was shot and his face was bashed in.

Police were alerted and both Constable Blair and his wife were found suffering from wounds.

They were taken to hospital where the cop was pronounced dead and his wife admitted under police guard.

Meantime, the community has been plunged into shock following the incident.

A large crowd gathered at the scene when our news team visited the area last evening.

One resident who identified himself as Rocky said he knew the couple, as they often visited his farm for produce.

He described Constable Blair as a good man.
