Opposition Spokesperson on Transport and Works, Mikael Phillips is calling on Prime Minister Andrew Holness to take urgent action against Minister with Responsibility for Works, Everald Warmington.

This as Mr. Phillips says Mr. Warmington continues to display arrogant and boorish behaviour.

Mr. Phillips’ remarks come in the wake of a verbal exchange between Mr. Warmington and resident of Portland and PNP Councillor candidate for the Fellowship Division, Colin Bell.

The Minister of Works was carrying out a tour in East Portland following days of protests by residents about poor road conditions, dust nuisance, and a lack of water, when Mr. Bell, reportedly joined the tour.

However, Mr. Warmington took issue with this, insisting that Mr. Bell should not be present.

In a statement this morning, Mr. Phillips pointed out that Mr. Warmington’s disrespectful attack on Mr. Bell was carried out in the name of the Prime Minister, since he is the substantive portfolio Minister for Works, and Mr. Warmington was therefore, substituting as minister assigned by him.

The Opposition Spokesman on Transports and Works said any concerned citizen, more so a representative of the people has a right to seek information on their well-being from the representatives elected to do so.

Mr. Phillips said the minister’s abuse of Mr. Bell, was unwarranted and undemocratic as all citizens in the parish are affected and needed information on government plans to address the issues.

He has asked the Prime Minister to ensure there is no repeat of such an incident.
