Chang: JCF and private security companies discuss how to mitigate against attacks on operations
National Security Minister, Dr Horace Chang says the Jamaica Constabulary Force has had discussions with private security companies, particularly Beryllium Limited on how to mitigate against attacks on their operations.
In recent times, Beryllium Limited has been the target of at least 5 attacks.
One security guard was shot and killed, while several others sustained gunshot wounds during the incidents.
The latest attack occurred on Saturday (April 29), in Albion, St Thomas.
When probed by reporters at Jamaica House this morning (May 3), on whether or not the armed forces will be working in tandem with the private security companies to address the issue, Dr Chang said although the companies operate a private business, they provide a service to the public.
He explained that disruptions to their service, will greatly impact citizens’ livelihoods, and the security forces must intervene to alleviate the problem.
Dr Chang said the police are working to find the perpetrators.
