The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) is still assessing the best way to intervene to assist with restoring stability in Haiti.

That’s according to Foreign Affairs Minister, Kamina Johnson-Smith. She was speaking at a post cabinet press briefing at Jamaica house yesterday (April 12).

In February, Prime Minister Andrew Holness led a special CARICOM mission to Haiti, to convene high level talks with government officials and civil society, on the continued socio-economic, political, and violent challenges the gang-torn country is facing.

A CARICOM statement had indicated that the mission was the first opportunity for officials to observe the situation on the ground.

Providing an update on the situation, Senator Johnson-Smith said discussions continue regarding Jamaica’s role.
