Fireman ends protest, climbs down from atop HWT transportation centre
The fire fighter who climbed to the top of the Half-Way-Tree Transportation Centre in St. Andrew, to demonstrate over the alleged poor treatment of fire fighters in the country, has climbed down.
Sergeant Leo Bennett descended the building at around mid-day, after being there for about 6 hours.
In a video circulating on social media, Sergeant Bennett said he was advocating for fire fighters, whose welfare have not been a priority.
Meantime, President of the Jamaica Association of Local Government Officers (JALGO) Helene Davis Whyte said Sergeant Bennett has been on suspension for previous actions that have allegedly placed the Jamaica Fire Brigade in disrepute.
Mrs. Davis Whyte told Irie FM News, that JALGO has always observed the appropriate protocols, in dealing with grievances.
She also noted that there are very few instances in which union representation and agitation have not been fruitful.
