Residents of Fairy Hill, Portland mount roadblock in protest over dust nuisance
Scores of commuters including school children have been left stranded as residents of Fairy Hill, Portland, mounted a roadblock in the vicinity of Poinciana park this morning (March 6).
The residents are protesting the dust nuisance caused by works on the Southern Coastal Highway Improvement Project.
They say the dust is unbearable and has resulted in people becoming sick.
Residents have downed trees and other debris to block the main road which leads to areas including Boston, Long Bay and Manchioneal.
Among the schools affected by this morning’s protest are Titchfield High, Fair Prospect High, Happy Grove High and several primary schools.
IRIE FM news understands that some students have begun walking to manoeuvre the roadblock.
