Opposition criticizes Education Ministry for spending $4M on site marking event for new STEM school
Four million dollars was spent by the Education Ministry to host a recent site marking event, for a new STEM Academy, in Bernard Lodge St Catherine.
The figure was given by Education Minister Fayval Williams in response to questions from MP for South St Catherine Fitz Jackson, during Wednesday’s session of Parliament’s Standing Finance Committee.
Mr. Jackson said that the money would have been better spent on fixing existing issues at schools. However, Mrs. Williams sought to defend the expenditure, citing the investment opportunities that the site marking event opened up for the school and surrounding community.
The Minister cautioned the MP against trivializing the impact of the site marking event.
