PM Holness: effort being made to get all unattached males into the National Service Corp
Prime Minister Andrew Holness has stated that effort will be made to get all unattached youth, especially males, enlisted in the Jamaica National Service Corp.
The programme, which was conceptualized by Holness in 2016, targets young people, between ages 18 and 23 years, creating an avenue for them to be fully empowered through national service.
Noting that it will be expensive to undertake an enlistment of all unattached youth in the JNSC, Mr. Holness said the government will seek to increase the national budget, in order to facilitate the expanded programme.
He cited the benefits of the programme, to include, the holistic development of members of the at-risk population, and a reduction in murders.
He explained further, that while the government has reaped some success, in targeting communities, which are highly violent, a wider strategy targeting unattached youth, is needed.
