Opposition calls on Health Minister to address alleged hiring disagreement at Cornwall Regional Hospital

Opposition People’s National Party is calling on Health and Wellness Minister, Dr. Christopher Tufton to address an alleged hiring disagreement involving a pool of doctors, the Western Regional Health Authority (WRHA) and the Cornwall Regional Hospital in St. James.

In a release today (January 6), Opposition Spokesperson on Health, Dr. Morais Guy explained that the dispute stemmed from a career advertisement published in a local newspaper, over one month ago, allegedly by the WRHA.

Dr. Guy claimed that despite the advertisement by the WRHA which outlined vacancies for ten Grade 1 medical officers, the hospital’s management allegedly rejected the applications, stating that there is no vacancy at the facility to accommodate the doctors.

Noting that the dispute could expose the country’s health system to unnecessary vulnerabilities, Dr. Guy has called on Dr. Tufton to ensure that internal disagreements do not compromise people’s ability to access quality health care.
