St. Ann Police Commander Senior Superintendent Dwight Powell says every effort will be made, to prevent a recurrence of major traffic gridlock connected to entertainment events, this holiday period.

There were chaotic scenes in Easter as motorists in Ocho Rios and other sections of the parish, were stuck in traffic for hours, with traffic stretching for miles due to the influx of people into the parish for parties and other activities.

SSP Powell says three major events are scheduled for the parish.

He adds that the police have met with the promoters and believe with careful planning the traffic gridlock will not recur.

SSP Powell says the St. Ann Police grant more than 30 permits weekly, for the staging of entertainment events.

Meantime, Chairman of the St. Ann Municipal Corporation, Mayor Sydney Stewart says the authorities will sign off on the permits for the events this week.

He says the Municipal Corporation is satisfied that the promoters are meeting the requirements.

Meantime, the St. Ann Municipal Corporation says traffic changes have been implemented for the three major towns in the parish – Ocho Rios, St. Ann’s Bay and Brown’s Town.

The changes will be in force from today, December 19, to January 2.

Mayor Sydney Stewart says the usual re-routing of traffic will take place and vendors will be allowed to vend on streets in the towns as of grand market.

And the St. Ann Police say while the three major towns, have outgrown the capacity of their main roadways, cops will be out in their numbers to manage the traffic and reduce congestion.

Motorists are warned to expect delays in the major towns.

Some through roads, have been patched, to accommodate traffic, which will be diverted in some instances.
