The majority of the island’s schools have opted to revert to online lessons due to the rain impacting the island.

The education ministry had cautioned schools to only open for face-to-face classes on Monday where conditions were safe to do so.

The ministry said this was based on the situational update from the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management, Odpem, and the meteorological office.

Reports are that schools in Clarendon, Manchester and Trelawny are among those which have decided to do remote learning for Monday.

Acting principal for the Troy High school in Trelawny Alliah Chambers-Green said an online platform was created for students recently.

She said going forward this will also aid the issue that has been plaguing some of the students who have to risk their lives in crossing the damaged Troy Bridge.

Other parishes including St. Thomas, St. Mary and Portland were advised by the ministry to allow students to remain home, due to the adverse weather conditions which disrupted power, worsened road conditions and caused flooding in some areas.
