NWA says protests affecting road repairs in St. Thomas
The National Works Agency NWA says continuing protests by some residents of St. Thomas are impacting efforts by contractors to improve the road conditions in the parish.
Yesterday (September 5) and today (September 6), residents mounted roadblocks in the Lyssons, Leith Hall and Amity Hall communities over the poor state of the roads.
Communications and Customer Services Manager at the NWA, Stephen Shaw says deliberate actions are being taken to improve the situation significantly.
He notes however, that threats and intimidation are being meted out to the workers on the site, which have caused the contractor to halt plans for further improvement works.
Mr. Shaw is hopeful that the team will be able to continue works along the affected roadways.
