JLP youth arm calls on Opposition to support extension of St. Catherine SOE
The youth arm of the Jamaica Labour Party, Young Jamaica is calling for Opposition Leader Mark Golding to back the Government’s bid to extend the state of public emergency (SOE) now in effect in St. Catherine.
The SOE was implemented following a surge in gang-related violence, especially in Spanish Town.
However, the measure will expire this week if the Opposition does not support the extension.
At least one Opposition Senator must vote in favour of the measure, for it to be extended.
Despite the Opposition’s recent letter to the Attorney General regarding concerns about the Emergency Powers Regulations, which govern SOEs, President of Young Jamaica, Rohan Walsh told IRIE FM news that he hopes the Opposition will help the Government fight the nation’s crime monster.
Noting the numerous concerns outlined in the Opposition’s letter to the Attorney General, Mr. Walsh added that the Government is taking the necessary steps to combat crime in the country.
