104 schools receive training through Alternative Justice Services programme
Justice Minister Delroy Chuck said students from 104 schools have received training in conflict resolution through the “Alternative Justice Services” programme.
Speaking at the Black River courthouse in St Elizabeth, following a tour of the facility, as well as of high schools in the parish, Mr Chuck cited a series of recent conflicts among students, resulting in major fights.
In recent weeks, the country has seen scores of incidents involving students being injured and charged with assault, as well as being in possession of illegal weapons.
Mr Chuck said students ought to be prepared to be the country’s future leaders.
He said the conflict resolution programme will continue in the next academic year.
Mr. Chuck added that the ministry has to collaborate with the nation’s churches to help more people with conflict resolution.
