A call is being made for more effective strategies to be implemented to address crime and violence in St. James.

The St. James Police Division has recorded the highest number of murders since the start of the year.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force says as at Sunday, 104 murders were committed in the parish.

Recently, Police Commissioner Major General Antony Anderson announced that sixty tactical officers will be deployed to Area One, which includes St. James, to boost the Force’s capacity to face the challenges in the region.

Speaking at this morning’s (June 9) monthly meeting of the St James Municipal Corporation, Councillor for the Granville Division, Michael Troupe said with the levels of violence soaring to new heights, drastic changes must be made.

He noted that he is prepared to meet with gang leaders to address the crime and violence issue plaguing the parish.

In response to Councillor Troupe’s call, Acting Head of the St. James police, Superintendent Carlos Russell assured that new policing strategies are coming in the parish.
