70 people murdered across the island in the past three weeks

Seventy people were murdered across the island in the past three weeks. 

That’s according to data from the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).

The JCF said as at August 24, 762 people were murdered. 

This is up from the 692 recorded up to August 3.

The constabulary noted that this figure is 143 fewer murders than recorded in the corresponding period last year. 

St. James continues to record the highest number of murders with 90, followed by Westmoreland with 66 and St. Catherine North with 59.

Portland recorded the least number of murders with 7. 

Meantime, the JCF is reporting reductions in rapes, robberies and break-ins. 

Cases of rape declined by 104, from 321 to 217.

Robberies went down by 70, from 478 to 408.

While break-ins are down by 53, from 598 to 545.
