6 suspects apprehended or killed in connection with Sunday’s deadly Clarendon mass shooting

The number of suspects apprehended and or killed in relation to Sunday’s deadly mass shooting in Clarendon now stands at 6.

This follows the fatal shooting of Steve Smith, otherwise called “Thicka” or “Fly Brain”, during an alleged confrontation with the security forces yesterday.

Initially, four men had been arrested and a firearm seized, while another man surrendered to the police, just days after Sunday’s incident.

In a joint press release last evening, the security forces noted that investigators believe Steve Smith was among the men suspected of being shooters in Sunday’s mass killing.

Smith was fatally shot during a targeted operation by members of the JCF fugitive apprehension team and the Clarendon Operational Support Unit in Osbourne Store, Clarendon.

They said Smith was suspected of being involved in numerous contract related killings, as well as other serious and illicit activities in Clarendon and other parishes.

Smith was also reportedly wanted by the May Pen Police for murder and had been listed as a person of interest in relation to several other murder investigations.

The security forces reported that during the operation yesterday, a team went to a location in Osbourne store, in search of Smith and other men who were suspected of being involved in Sunday’s incident.

There was an alleged confrontation during which Smith was shot and wounded.

Smith was taken to hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The security forces said the matter has been reported to the independent commission of investigations, INDECOM.

The security forces are urging other persons involved in Sunday’s shooting incident to surrender peacefully when they are being apprehended, instead of challenging lawmen.

They also appealed for the continued cooperation and support of the community.

Anyone with information related to the incident is being urged to share what they know with the police.
