A 6-month-old baby girl perished in a house fire in Montpelier, St. James, this morning.

She is Nymerah Graham.

Police say at about 1 AM officers responded to reports of a fire in the Guinep Tree community.

Upon their arrival, they saw a board and zinc structure ablaze.

Firefighters also responded and extinguished the blaze.

Following cooling-down operations, Nymerah’s partially burnt body was found.

According to the police, family members said they made attempts to retrieve Nymerah from the house, but were unsuccessful.

Firefighters are investigating the cause of the blaze.

Meanwhile, Member of Parliament for South St James Nickiesha Burchell has expressed sadness at the tragedy.

She said the death of Nymerah is an unimaginable loss for the community.

The MP said the entire community has been shaken by the incident.

Ms. Burchell noted that her team will continue to support the family in this time of sorrow.
