Motor vehicle driver fatalities have increased by 7 when compared to the same period last year.

As at today 41 private motor vehicle drivers have died in crashes up from the 34 recorded up to June 30, 2024.

The latest crash which occurred this morning, claimed the lives of two drivers along the Old Harbour main road in St. Catherine.

They have been identified as 26-year-old Shandee Williams from Westmoreland and 44-year-old Carlos Pryce of Burnside Valley, Red Hills, in St. Andrew.

Reports are that at about 2:20 a.m., Pryce, was driving a grey Honda Fit motor car, towards Spanish Town when the vehicle collided with a grey Nissan Altima motor car which was being driven by Williams, in the opposite direction.

Both men sustained injuries and were pronounced dead at hospital.

Meantime, there has been a 7 percent decrease in overall fatalities compared to the same period last year.

As at today June 30, there have been 188 road deaths.

Director General of Road Traffic at the Island Traffic Authority, Colonel Daniel Pryce is urging all road users to prioritize safety.

He notes that motorists should reduce their speed and drive cautiously.
