35 murdered in St Ann since January, 90-day operational plan rolled out
Thirty-five people have been murdered in St. Ann since the start of the year.
According to head of the St. Ann police, Deputy Superintendent Rohan Elliott, 36 homicides were recorded in the same period last year.
The parish’s latest murder victim is Sharon Barrett-Boswell, of Broad Street, in Claremont.
She was gunned down at her home on Sunday by unknown assailants.
Reports from the Moneague police indicate that around 8 p.m., residents heard explosions and alerted the authorities.
Upon arrival, officers found Barrett-Boswell suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body.
She was taken to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
In response to the recent murders the police say, a 90-day operational plan has been rolled out, which includes intensified patrols and targeted operations.
There are also nightly curfews in several communities, such as Lime Hall and Parry Town.
DSP Elliott also confirmed that, his team is receiving additional support from a platoon within the specialized operations branch.
He noted that most of the murders in St. Ann stemmed from interpersonal conflicts and unresolved disputes, rather than organized criminal activity.
