29yo pharmacy technician charged with larceny by trick in relation to $273,000 employment scam
A 29-year-old pharmacy technician has been charged with larceny by trick in relation to an employment scam between April 2023 and September 21, 2024.
Charged is Kadeane Swaby of Mountain View in West Gate Hills, St. James.
Reports are that in 2023, Ms. Swaby convinced a woman that her uncle
could guarantee an employment opportunity for her in the Cayman Islands.
The woman submitted her passport and $18,000 to Swaby to initiate the hiring process and then paid $255,000 to secure the position.
After a long period, the woman enquired about the job and was given numerous
excuses.
The woman then contacted Swaby’s uncle via a social networking platform and was told that he was unaware of the arrangement, and that he does not provide employment.
After realising she had been conned, the woman confronted Swaby, who pledged to repay her by September 21, 2024.
When the refund was not made, a report was filed to the police.
Swaby was detained on March 31, after the complainant pointed her out to the police.
She was charged on Thursday, April 3.
A court date is being arranged.
