USA and UK poised to host 2031 and 2035 Women’s World Cup
FIFA President Gianni Infantino has revealed that the United States and the United Kingdom are set to be named hosts of the 2031 and 2035 Women’s World Cup, respectively. The news follows a significant update from Infantino during the UEFA Congress in Belgrade on Thursday, where he confirmed that both nations are the sole valid bidders.
For the 2031 edition, the United States has submitted the only bid, potentially in collaboration with several other Concacaf nations. This marks a major milestone for the U.S., who will be hosting the Women’s World Cup for a third time after previously welcoming the tournament in 1999 and 2003. With this win, the United States will become the first country to host the competition three times.
The 2035 tournament will be hosted by a joint bid from the United Kingdom’s Home Nations, including England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Infantino emphasized that this bid is the only “valid bid” received for the 2035 edition, ruling out the possibility of Spain, Portugal, and Morocco—who are hosting the 2030 men’s World Cup—submitting a joint bid for the Women’s World Cup.
In his address, Infantino shared his excitement for the continued growth of the women’s game, highlighting how these World Cup tournaments will further elevate women’s football across the globe. He also noted that the 2031 edition will see the competition expanded to 48 teams, following the successful expansion to 32 teams for the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
