JUTC will re-adjust its service in Ocho Rios if PPV operators provide unfair /unreliable service to commuters -Vaz

The Transport Ministry and the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) are monitoring the route adjustments implemented last month with intentions to make reviews.

This includes the Ocho Rios service in St. Ann.

Effective May 20, the JUTC reduced the frequency of its Ocho Rios service in response to concerns raised by Public Passenger Vehicle (PPV) operators.

The operators lamented that the JUTC was stealing their passengers and, in essence, reducing their profits.

Recognising the importance of maintaining balance within the public transportation sector, the JUTC opted to reduce its services.

Addressing the matter at a press conference in Kingston yesterday, portfolio Minister Daryl Vaz said PPV operators are expected to deliver fair and reliable service to commuters.

He said anything below the standard will result in the JUTC boosting its services along the routes.
