“Remove all cops involved in operation from front-line duty!” Granville Peace Justice and Resource Development Foundation on Sunday’s fatal shooting

The Granville Peace, Justice and Resource Development Foundation says it is appalled by the fatal shooting of a woman by the police in Granville Square, St. James, yesterday.

The woman has been identified as 45-year-old Lotoya Bulgin, also known as “Buju” of Gunns Drive, Granville.

In a statement, the Foundation says this latest death has further shaken a community already carrying deep wounds.

It said since the start of the year, the Granville community has mourned the shooting deaths of a four-year-old, two teenagers, a 24-year-old and now a woman killed in broad daylight before eyewitnesses.

The Foundation said it notes the Police High Command’s statement that the cop involved had been interdicted and that the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) and the Inspectorate and Professional Standards Oversight Bureau (I-PROB) have commenced investigations.

However, the Foundation is calling for all officers directly involved in the operation to be immediately removed from front-line duty pending the outcome of the investigation.

It said only a transparent, independent and credible probe can restore confidence in the police.
