Indian teenager Vaibhav Suryavanshi created history this morning in the ICC Men’s Under 19 cricket World Cup final.
This when he smashed a breathtaking 175 from just 80 balls to help India lift the title, after beating England by 100 runs in a memorable final at the Harrare Sports Club in Zimbabwe.
The 14-year-old who was named man of the match , slammed 15 sixes and 15 fours at a strike rate of 218.75 in his 126-minute stay at the crease.
The century off 55 balls is the second fastest in the Under19 World Cup, behind Will Malajczuk’s 51-ball hundred for Australia against Japan earlier in this year’s tournament.
Suryavanshi innings ended in the 26th overs, when he was stopped by England seamer Manny Lumsden, as India posted a mammoth 411 for 9 from their allotted 50 overs.
Captain Ayush Mhatre weighed in with 53 and Abhigyan Kundu supported with 40.
This against the bowling of James Minto who took 3 for 63.
India’s score was the fifth highest total in an Under 19 World Cup, and a record for a final.
Meanwhile, England chasing 412 runs to win, crashed at 311 all out in 40 overs and two balls, with Caleb Falconer scoring a century 115, while opener Ben Dawkins supported with 66.
